Looking after a lawn

LOOKING AFTER A LAWN

A lawn needs looking after in order for it to be healthy and to give a pleasing aspect to any garden.
If, for example, we see that our lawn is dry and parched we must take measures to remedy this.
Before starting we must know what type of grass we have., there are two main types: cold climate and warm climate grass. If ours is cold climate we must renew it in autumn but if on the other hand it is of the warm climate type this should be done in the summer.
To avoid these problems in the future we must take care to water our lawn properly neither too much nor too little to ensure a good root bed. If the roots are too short they will be vulnerable to insects, dry spells and other blights. A correct watering, usually two centimetres of water.
Watering should be done once a week but if we see that our lawn is very dry watering can be stepped up. Not only is watering important for a healthy looking lawn but it should also be free from weeds. There are a large variety of weeds that can deteriorate our lawn such as Dandy lion, this appears in any type of lawn specially in the spring and the end of autumn. You can pull them up or use a chemical herbicide. Is often the best.
